About This Design
The Eleanor Roosevelt Monument, in New York’s Riverside Park, was dedicated in . It is said to be the first monument to an American president’s wife. The centerpiece is a statue sculpted by Penelope Jencks. The surrounding granite pavement contains inscriptions designed by the architect Michael Middleton Dwyer, including a summary of her achievements, and a quote from her speech at the United Nations advocating universal human rights
