About This Design

In this short reinterpretation of Swedish fairytales and folklore, Princess Tuvstarr, with hair like spun moonlight and eyes the color of the summer sky, chafed against the gilded bars of her castle window. The endless stories from visiting dignitaries and dusty tomes in the library couldn’t quell her yearning for the vibrant whispers carried on the forest breeze. One crisp morning, with a knapsack full of bread and a heart full of resolve, Tuvstarr slipped past the slumbering guards. — The forest, a tapestry of emerald and gold, unfolded before her. A magnificent stag with antlers like a crown materialized from the dappled sunlight. He warned her of the forest’s capricious heart, where mischief and danger danced among the ancient trees. Tuvstarr, her spirit ignited by the thrill of the unknown, pressed on. — Playful sprites giggled, snatching at her dress, leaving behind shimmering threads that clung to the air. Elusive elves, perched on mushroom thrones, bartered riddles for her crown, a symbol of her sheltered life. Though a part of her ached for the familiar weight of the gold, the raw beauty of the forest thrummed with a new kind of magic. — Finally, she reached a hidden lake, its surface as still and dark as polished obsidian. Drawn by an unseen force, Tuvstarr knelt at the water’s edge. Her reflection, a stranger with tangled hair and wild eyes, stared back. As a tear slipped down her cheek, a warmth bloomed in her chest, spreading outwards. Startled, she reached in, feeling only the icy caress of the water. Her heart, the source of her innocence and naivety, was gone, absorbed by the enigmatic depths. — Grief threatened to engulf her, but a newfound clarity bloomed within. The forest, once a frightening unknown, now whispered secrets in the rustling leaves. Though forever bound to the lake, a part of her heart now echoed with the untamed rhythm of the wild. Here, amidst the whispering pines and the watchful gaze of the stag, Princess Tuvstarr began a new chapter, no longer a sheltered princess, but a daughter of the wild. — This Artwork by John Bauer (–) in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the Copyright Office) before January 1, .
