About This Design

This image is from the advertising poster “Troupe de Mille Eglantine,” made by Art Nouveau pioneer Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. It features the cancan dancers of the Troupe De Mille Eglantine dance troupe, which included Jane Avil and Cléopatre Gazelle. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was a famous Post-Impressionist painter, lithographer, and illustrator, who documented the Bohemian night life of the Montmartre section of Paris. When the cabaret opened its doors, Toulouse-Lautrec was commissioned to produce a series of posters. Afterward, the cabaret reserved a special chair for him. They took great pleasure in his paintings, which they displayed.
