About This Design

She was born Isabel Flores de Oliva in Lima, Peru, but is better known as St. Rose of Lima, the first saint born in the Americas. According to tradition, a servant in the Flores household dreamed a dream in which the infant Isabel’s face was transformed into a rose. Thereafter, the nickname “Rose” stuck. It became official in when she took the name for herself at her confirmation by Archbishop St. Toribio de Mogrovejo. Quite naturally, roses of all varieties have become her attribute. In art, she is depicted crowned with roses (as here), holding roses, or in a setting with potted roses or flowering rose bushes. + Prefer a solid color background? Delete the pattern image and see the Color Palette postcard for recommendations. No border works too here. + Image Credit (BK ): Antique image of St. Rose of Lima from a late th century chromolithographic devotional print with gilt accents (Dominican Series, No. ), originally published by B. Kühlen, at Mönchengladbach, Germany, from the designer’s private collection of religious ephemera. + Feast: August
