About This Design

The MacAlister clan dates to the mid-s but is relatively new to Kennox House, which was built after John Somerville purchased the land in . Kennox House came into possession of the MacAlister clan chief in in , when Charles McAlester, th of Loup, only son of Angus McAlester of Loup, Chief of the Clan MacAlister, married Janet, daughter and heiress of William Somerville. It has also been spelled as Kenox, in , and Kennoch, in . The clan is a branch of Clan Donald, being considered the earliest branch to have split from the main. The MacAlister clan claims descent from Alasdair Mor, son of Domhnall, founder of Clan Donald, and originated in the Western Isles. Clan members were Jacobites and lost their lands and fortune following the uprising. It is considered a Lowland Clan as Kennow House is located in North Ayrshire, Parish of Dunlop Scotland.
