About This Design

If you’re a member of the Irvine/Irving Clan, you are already aware your people have a variety of name spellings for the same family. However, did you know that your homeplace in Scotland is a castle near Drumoak in Aberdeenshire? Puzzled about the name? Drum comes from “druim”, a Gaelic word that means ridge. For centuries, Drum Castle was the seat of the chief of Clan Irvine. The th century tower is thought to have been designed by Richard Cementarius, a leading medieval architect. Wikipedia notes that Drum Castle “is believed to be one of the three oldest tower houses in Scotland (and notably unaltered)”. Image courtesy of Wolfgang Claussen from Pixabay.
