About This Design

This is from a poem about how the earth is treated as well as living in a body perceived to be femme. For so many of us, our relationship with the world around us has become so twisted and exploitative. The norm in so many societies has become to celebrate ourselves, or humanity for figuring out new ways to use the natural resources without considering sustainability, gratitude, or being part of a larger ecosystem. In more ways than one, that’s true for so many living in bodies perceived as femme or who were socialized as girls growing up. Especially for multiply marginalized communities, those with power and privilege frequently take credit for any and all contributions/talent/abilities/capacity/creating by folks who identify with these communities. And the climate crisis also impacts multiply marginalized communities on a much higher global level with rising ocean levels, increased destruction of viable historically indigenous land/resources/sacred spaces, environmental racism and pollution, lack of disaster policies to protect the working class, disabled, BIPOC, countries and communities harmed by imperialism/colonialism. Unfortunately I see few conversations about this outside of impacted communities. That needs to change. Proceeds from this item is going to be split between Sogora’Te Land Trust and Mycellium Youth Network –both BIPOC led organizations working on reconnecting marginalized communities with the land. “Sogorea Te’ Land Trust is an urban Indigenous women-led land trust based in the San Francisco Bay Area that facilitates the return of Indigenous land to Indigenous people. Through the practices of rematriation, cultural revitalization, and land restoration, Sogorea Te’ calls on Native and non-native peoples to heal and transform the legacies of colonization, genocide, and patriarchy and to do the work our ancestors and future generations are calling us to do. Rematriate: to restore a people to their rightful place in sacred relationship with their ancestral land. Sogorea Te’ is centered in Huchuin, the ancestral homeland of the Confederated Villages of Lisjan, now known as the East Bay.” If you live in the Bay Area and aren’t indigenous, please look at paying “the Shuumi Land Tax, a voluntary annual contribution that non-Indigenous people living on traditional Lisjan Ohlone territory make to support the critical work of the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust”. Learn more about this amazing organization here: All parts in ” ” are from their website. “MISSION Mycelium Youth Network (MYN) prepares youth in the East Bay Area — who are most vulnerable to and already feeling the effects of environmental racism — for climate change. We use a merger of indigenous environmental traditions that emphasize youth environmental stewardship and relationship building alongside a rigorous STEAM curriculum that focuses on practical hands-on skills for climate resilience and mitigation that youth create and implement in their homes and local communities. We empower youth to grow as visionary leaders and budding environmentalists, connect with ancestral teachings, and trust in the wisdom of the natural world.” You can donate to support their work here: Will post receipts of donations of proceeds once there’s sales. These are two orgs that mean a lot to me and there are so many incredible BIPOC led organizations doing similar work. If you’re looking for orgs in your own area, feel free to message and happy to see what recommendations I have in my notes that these orgs or BIPOC community organizers have made previously.
